The programme has been designed to cater to the scholarly needs of working executives, managers, faculty members and researchers, who are unable to commit to a full-time residential doctoral study.
The programme trains its students to become skilled and innovative researchers and teachers in management. It aims at preparing students for careers as faculty members at premier academic institutions and for positions outside academics requiring advanced research and analytical capabilities. Only those who are reasonably certain that they can devote enough time regularly to such a study, alongside their occupational and personal responsibilities, must apply for this programme.
Taking long breaks of more than of weeks during the programme, for whatever reasons, is detrimental to serious study, and is strongly discouraged by the institute. Those who are unsure of devoting time on a regular basis as described above, are advised to refrain from applying to this programme.
When applying for admission, the candidate must indicate a primary area and a secondary area of interest. The philosophy of stretching beyond the limit is what XLRI preaches.
XLRI's methodology of teaching, which is about reinventing oneself continuously, is put to practice in this trip. The intent of this program is to train students to understand the problems of rural India and address them in a better way, it is mandatory for students to spend a few days in the rural parts of India. Under the Village Exposure Program, students of the ExPGDM have to identify the problems of the people of a particular village and then suggest solutions.
Students will then have to design business modules. The rural exposure Program will help the future managers to understand the needs of the local people and provide solutions to their problems. More than eligible candidates are expected to apply. You could specify this at the time of application, though you have to choose one main area of specialization while applying. You could take courses from a variety of areas and choose your thesis topic that cuts across disciplines.
The Institute expects high academic rigor and integrity. It has stringent requirements at every stage of the programme.
The candidates who are unable to meet the requirements will be asked to leave the programme. You have to apply for a specific area. Area to which you have applied will decide on your suitability for admission. You can change your area of specialization later, under exceptional circumstances. Students are allowed to change their chosen area of work during the first year at XLRI, if they fulfil specified criteria.
